American musician and actor Awkwafina debuted with sly lyrics that tackled issues of sexuality and racial identities with a an incisive and humorous perspective, before expanding her reach into Hollywood. Nora Lum was born to Chinese Koreans living in Forest Hills Queens. Her first exposure to music was through the instrument of trumpet. Jazz, classical and hip-hop training began as she was just a teenager. In her studies, she majored in journalism, and women's studies. She even taking classes in Mandarin in Beijing for a short time. After graduating, it wasn't until when she decided to turn her attention towards music. Her track in 2012 My Vag a response to Mickey Avalon's My Dick found viral success across the Internet which led to her debut album Yellow Ranger in 2014. The album included other popular hits, including the body positive Queef and a winking, hometown tour NYC Bitche$1. The latter was tied to Awkwafina's NYC and 2015 travel guide. Following her success as a musician, and author, she decided to take on acting roles. Along with early series like Girl Code, Tawk and Bad Rap she also appeared in films such as Neighbors in Storks. The actress made headlines in the year 2018 when she appeared in a number of movies that were highly regarded, such as Dude Ocean's 8, as well as Crazy Rich Asians. She released the EP,"At Fina We Trust in June in the same year.
